‘Artistry of the Soul’ Yoga Retreats in Ubud, Bali

Tuesday, November 10th, 2009

Kathryn Riding, Yoga Teacher for Over 25 Years, Guides Students in
Experiencing Embodiment Through Yoga and Improvisation

Kathryn Riding, performer, performing arts teacher, voice and yoga teacher with over 25 years experience, announces two dates for her “Artistry of the Soul” yoga retreat for 2010 in Ubud, Bali at Melati Cottages, in the tranquil village of Penastanan.

“Artistry of the Soul” is an invitation for attendees to deepen their yoga practice, to explore improvisation with movement, voice and storytelling, to experience the thrill of spontaneity, the clarity of trusting their body wisdom, and the empowerment of embodiment. The retreats are held in the beautiful city of Ubud, one of Bali’s major artistic, healing and cultural centers.

Each morning, students will begin with a yoga class that will be both dynamic and restorative. Kathryn will lead students in tuning into their bodies wisdom by being present to each posture and its healing and aligning properties. Students will explore a deeper connection with the bandhas (internal locks that develop strength and stability and improve alignment), a deeper connection to the breath and will experience and explore the art of stillness and deep rest.

Each day will end with an improvisation class where students will deepen their connection to body wisdom through guided improvised movement. Students will experience the interconnection between body and sound, the freedom of storytelling, and ultimately the interplay between movement, voice, and story. In the evenings additional restorative yoga and meditation classes will also be included.

Time between classes might be spent receiving a massage or treatment from the highly skilled Balinese therapists, walking through the dreamy rice fields, visiting temples, sampling the wonderful restaurants and cafes in Ubud, and experiencing the beauty and grace of the Balinese culture.

Co-presenter Vijoleta will also be offering informal opportunities to further awaken students senses through photography, sharing creativity, visits to local artisans, or exploring Balinese cooking. No preparation or prior skill in these areas are needed; just a willingness to play and explore!

“Creating space for our bodies and voices to move with freedom and awareness can be incredibly transformative and uplifting. Old patterns can be shifted, new ways of being and seeing can be experienced. Over the past few years, I have had the priviledge of teaching many retreats in Ubud. From my experience there is no doubt that Ubud itself adds a deeper level of enjoyment to the experience of these retreats.”
