Influential Wireless Technology Executive Joins Board of Malaysian Conglomerate’s Communications Unit
KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia, November 16, 2009 – YTL Communications Sdn Bhd
today announced the appointment of Ali Tabassi as a director to its board. Mr. Tabassi is
senior vice president of global ecosystem and standards for Clearwire and as such is
responsible for driving industry standards internationally to achieve Clearwire’s corporate
objectives. He also leads the company’s global advocacy program and its network
engineering, operations, product development, and IT services in Ireland, Spain,
Belgium, Romania, Germany and Poland as the CTO of Clearwire International.

Mr. Tabassi has more than 20 years of experience in the development, integration and
operation of wireless solutions in the telecommunications, networking and IP industries.
Prior to joining Clearwire, he was acting CTO and vice president of technology
development and architecture for Sprint Nextel, where he evaluated emerging
technologies and new business opportunities to ensure that the company was at the
forefront of technology innovation. Before Sprint, Mr. Tabassi was EVP and chief
technology and development officer for MobileStar, a provider of wireless broadband
access.
Earlier, as vice president of engineering and operations at SkyTel, he managed network
planning, system design, project management, implementation, maintenance and
operations of SkyTel’s Nationwide Traditional and Advanced Messaging networks. Mr.
Tabassi also served as director of engineering services for both Alltel Mobile, the cellular
division of ALLTEL Corporation, and for LCC International, a leading telecommunication
consulting firm.
Mr. Tabassi holds an MBA and two Bachelor of Science degrees, in Electrical
Engineering and Mathematics.
